Topic: Study in Switzerland

We’re shining a light on boarding schools that stand out from the crowd.

Switzerland is synonymous with private education. Boarding schools have been popular in the country for over 100 years. It attracts every type of high profile student from around the world. They include the Rockefellers and Olympic athletes (including famous Russian figure skater Anna Ovcharova). As well as Egyptian, European and Hollywood royalty, including Elizabeth Taylor and 007 Roger Moore’s children. Plus the activities on offer range from horse-riding to sailing, movie editing and, of course, skiing. Read on to learn more about this intriguing world!

The Trendsetter

Institut Le Rosey was founded in 1880 in Rolle. Although the first international boarding school in Switzerland, it was closely followed by many others. Perhaps surprisingly, it only became co-ed in 1967. The school also offers over 20 mother tongue foreign language programmes. You can choose to study from English, French, German, Italian, Bulgarian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Hindu and more.

The Educational Pioneer

Institute auf dem Rosenberg developed the Rosenberg International Curriculum (RIC). It is internationally accredited and widely recognized for its academic depth and its cross-subject links to foster interdisciplinary thinking.  Rosenberg is the only Swiss private boarding school to offer IB, APs, A-Levels or the Rosenberg High School Diploma under one roof.

The Biggest of Them All

College du Leman (CDL) is the largest international school with around 1800 students and over 100 nationalities. It offers both day and boarding options, and offers an unforgettable student experience. Set in 10 hectares on the outskirts of Geneva, they have two sailboats, a 5000 square meter “Olympus” gymnasium, 3 tennis courts, an outdoors swimming pool and an archery range. There are also 15 villas for the boarders.

The Female Flagship

Surval has evolved from a finishing school into a prestigious all-girls’ boarding school above Montreux for 12 to 19 year olds. It also runs an unforgettable Swiss Gap Year Experience for any female student looking to expand their horizons before university. Surval is focused on emboldening girls with the confidence, tenacity, and resilience to find their own path and success in life. We recently sat down with the new Principal of Surval to find out how an all-girls school fits into today’s world. You can read the full interview here.
