About
The story began in 1956 when M. Crist Fleming fulfilled her dream of establishing an American boarding school in the heart of Europe, designed to prepare students for American colleges and universities and to introduce them to European culture and languages.
Today TASIS welcomes more than 700 day and boarding students from Pre-Kindergarten to Postgraduate, with 250 students between ages 12-19 residing on campus. With a student body that represents approximately 60 nationalities each year and speaks more than 35 languages as a mother tongue, cultural differences are celebrated as students challenge and inspire one another to become global citizens.
Academic programs provide a rich and varied curriculum that encourages students to find their own voice no matter what the discipline. High School students can choose from a selection of Advanced Placement courses or pursue the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, providing access to colleges and universities around the world.
Accredited by the European Council of International Schools (ECIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), Tasis is proud to employ gifted, passionate educators who encourage intellectual curiosity.
The Program
Elementary School
The TASIS Elementary School, which now serves students in grades Pre-Kindergarten (starting at age 3) through 5, opened its doors as the first English-language elementary school in Ticino in the fall of 2005 and has remained the region’s premier independent school ever since. Since its inception, the Elementary School has grown from 43 students to a vibrant international community of 180 children representing 30 nationalities and speaking more than 20 languages as a mother tongue.
Middle School
The TASIS Middle School is a passage from Elementary to High School. The academic curriculum includes English and Italian sections and an English as an Additional Language program. The Middle School also offers a comprehensive after-school program focusing on sports and enrichment activities, and students in grades 6–8 may choose to live in a dormitory on campus.
High School
TASIS prepares high school students for university and life beyond with a challenging academic program that includes Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses and academic and service travel. The students gain admission to and succeed in competitive colleges and universities around the world.
