Topic: Study in Switzerland
Welcome to our third installment of our Spotlight Series. This week we’re looking at hospitality schools – founded in Switzerland over a hundred years ago, there’s certainly plenty to choose from. Read on to find out more and don’t forget to check out our round-up of boarding schools and private universities.
The Networker – Glion
Glion has over 15,000 alumni members across 144 countries. With an approximate 50:50 split between the hospitality industry and wider roles in FMCG, banking, marketing etc, the network provides a wealth of experience and links. On campus, students formed the Glion Networking Committee to bring people together. Run by students on campus, it encourages a fulfilling student life through alumni-student dinners, corporate visits and guest speakers. They also give internship experience presentations where older students pass on their insights from their first internships.
The Forward-Thinker- EHL Hospitality Business School
The first hotel school, founded in 1893, has received multiple awards over the years, including “World’s Best Hotel Management School” and “Best Innovation in Education”. Their on-site student-run restaurant has a Michelin star. With a recent name change to reflect their educational offering and a new CEO at the helm, (an expert on growth strategies with a focus on innovation and corporate entrepreneurship no less), watch this space.
The Enthusiast – Cesar Ritz Colleges Switzerland
Based on a spirit of entrepreneurship, these future hoteliers are encouraged to step outside of their comfort zone and to think differently. With a focus on sustainability, students learn to apply their passion to every aspect of their career and understand the impact they can have. This is reflected in and out of the classroom, with beehives and honey-making workshops, waste management practices, green housekeeping standards and ethical food-sourcing.
The Alpinist – Les Roches Switzerland
Les Roches students are always looking to climb new heights. With great career ambitions, and a global network at their fingertips, Les Roches graduates can be found working around the world to the highest of standards. Their campus in Crans-Montana reflects this mentality, embracing nature and their alpine setting. Students have a unique opportunity to focus and study in the most coveted of locations. Finding inspiration in the mountains, they can prepare for their next climb up the career ladder.
The Speedster – B.H.M.S.
B.H.M.S. has partnered with Robert Gordon University to design a fast-track Hospitality Bachelor’s degree without compromising on quality. Traditionally, a Bachelor of Arts is made up of 24 months of study, combined with 12 months of internship (which can be taken in two 6-month windows). At BHMS, they have condensed the classroom time down to 18 months, allowing for 18 months of internship. With an extra 6 months of additional professional experience, BHMS students can hone their skills and network on the field before graduation day.
